Double strollers come in three shapes: side-by-side (each child gets the same view, but it's wide), tandem (front and back, as narrow as a single) and single-to-double (starts as one seat, adds a second later).
We rank doubles mostly on value, ride and comfort, then storage, build and weight. If your younger child is a newborn, check car seat compatibility first.

Side-by-sides are easier to load and fairer for siblings, but check the width: most U.S. doors are 30–32 in. Tandems fit anywhere a single does.
Look for a frame that takes an infant car seat or bassinet in one spot while the toddler rides in the other.
Seats range from 40 to 50 lb here. A preschooler can outgrow a 40 lb seat quickly.
Doubles weigh 28–37 lb. If you lift it into a trunk daily, every pound matters.
Side-by-side if you have wide sidewalks, a big trunk and kids close in age. Tandem if you shop in narrow aisles or have a baby plus an older child who may walk part of the way.
Most side-by-sides here are 29–30 in wide and fit standard 30–32 in doors; some older doors are tight. Tandems fit anywhere a single stroller does.
